Figured I post up a build thread for the Landshark. I'll start with an update on where she's at right now. Then I'll post some history. Finally any new build updates. Bookmark and get your Landshark Build Thread Eating-popcorn-04 ready.

The Landshark is now black, I spilled for a high end custom rattle can Satin Black paint job. Looks great form 20' looks like poop from 5', but hey touch ups are $2.97 a can She's still a little go, a little show and a lot of RICE

The stock Porsche V8 is gone and replaced with a 434 SBC. Happened in stages. Couldn't get the stock engine to put out more power with in my budget, so I switched teams. It's been a slow process as I've done all the build work myself except the head porting.

Started with a decent 383, then better heads, then bigger cam, then bigger bottom.
Here's what she has now:

Just sold my small nitrous kit. Installing a new 250-400Hp kit in April. Plan on using a 300Hp shot on 1/4 miles.

I'm now deleting the interior for a full cage. Rear is finished and covered with a piece of carpet, along with a small 2x12 box for now. This winter I will be adding rear flares and bigger tires. 295 will move to the front and be replaced with 335s in the rear. Working on a new front end as well. Then a real paint job.

Upcoming build items:
1. Roll Cage
2. Kirkey Road Race Seats
3. Rear Flares, new rims, 335 tires in rear
4. 1.65 Rocker upgrade
5. Install 5 channel amp to run 1x12 and 4 6.5s. Needs to be modular to be removed on track days.
6. Possibly Gemballa Body kit in the spring.
7. Real Paint Job!

You are now free to laugh and move about the cabin...

And now a video of her idling. Even with fuel injection she still has a nice lope and pop to the exhaust. Was meaner with the carb.

Okay here is the original engine.

Started life as a Euro version of the 4.7L water cooled V8 with 300HP form the factory. 300HP was HUGE when this car was made, by comparison the Corvette made 230HP and weighed more. I swaped the bottom end for a later 5.0L block. Engine came with forged crank, rods and pistons from the factory in an aluminum block. I then had the "Spider" intake extrude honed, heads ported, larger vales with 5 angle job. I also had Webcams grind me two custom reduced base circle cams increasing lift to .506" and duration about 10*. Added a set of MSDS headers, Magnaflow X and afterburner mufflers. I also beefed up the K-jetronic FI with bigger mechanical injectors, 3an lines to each injector and I also reworked the CIS fuel distributor and WUR increasing system fuel pressure. End result? About 375HP. A lot of work and money for just 75HP. The next step was a 6.0L stroker. This was a $15K option I could not justify just to get into the mid 400's. Just the billet crank was $3200. I settled for a 150HP N2O shot and thought about my next step.

I had to get creative at times. I modified a Q45 TB to fit my intake. I also rewired the CD system for a better 6AL. I finally had MSD create a hybrid Dizzy using the bottom of a VW unit and top of a Chevy unit.

Nitrous. Note stock engine is actually bigger than the SBC due to overhead cams.

So the next step was to give up on the Porsche power plant. Out she came.

And in went the SBC using a Renegade Hybrids conversion kit. Retained the stock 5 speed tranny with 2.75 LSD

This "3-4 week winter project" took me a year due to issues at work. Got promoted and started spending 3-4 nights a week on the road.

So I got the 383 in and running and was not blown away by the power. It was right at 500HP. So I decided to make some changes. I got a new Dart SHP short block with forged internals. Bumped displacement up to a 434 (427 0.030 over). I also ditched the Procomp 210 heads for some CNC Airwolf 220 heads. I also switched to a polished intake and did my own port / gasket match job. Came out pretty nice for something I did myself. I kept the cam I had, though I am now thinking about bigger rockers. I also ditched the water pump for an Electric one. Then the stock radiator went in the pile replaced by a nice 3 core shiney unit. I made some brackets to drop the Alternator and PS pump down low for lower center of gravity and a cleaner look. Alternator and PS pump replaced with chrome units for bling factor.

Things were getting better, however I was constantly chasing a good tune on the carb. I pulled the trigger on a TBI unit. Powerjection III. The 930cfm TB rating would flow plenty to support well over what I could make. I also picked up another small nitrous kit. I have it jetted for 200HP on a progressive ramp. Hits at 100HP at 2750rpms and ramps to 200HP by 5500rpms. Holds 200Hp through 7K shift point. Noids tucked in under the TBI.

I am still dialing in the fuel injection. It has an adaptive self learn, however you have to nudge it in the right direction. At 475RW-ftlbs it's still adding 16% more fuel at WOT. I should be making 535-550ftlbs at the crank so I am getting close counting for 15%+/- drivetrain loss with the 5 speed.

Here is what the fuel wizard looks like. You set Max rear wheel torque, cam type (Vacuum), intake followed by adjusting each cell band with (RPM) to a percent of max torque.
Then the ADL shows added or removed fuel by cell (MAP vs RPM). The program lets you stay simple or get as detailed as you want.

Landshark Build Thread FuelMap-1

I mounted the laptap in the car to make tuning on the fly easier. It also allows me to have a normal tune and nitrous tune. I can swap tunes in 10 seconds at any light or the staging lanes.

Added larger fuel filter
Landshark Build Thread IMAG0272

And adjustable cam cover. Allows access to cam gear with out removing balancer. Also has adjustable cam button to control cam walk.
Landshark Build Thread IMAG0263

Had to modify HEI timing. New weights and bushings. Bolt is shaved down to limit mechanical advance travel. Due to large cam initial timing is 24*, mechanical adds 14* for 38* total all in by 3000rpms. Also made a limiting plate for the adjustable vacuum advance. Adds 8* advance starting at 6" all in by 10". Vac advance is all in by idle and during light cruise.

Plasti Dip Wheels. First try. Will strip wheels and do again but pretty okay for now.

Before. Dirty wheel.

After 4 coats. My car has gum on it's shoe. Ewww...

And with yellow pinstripe.

Lots of updates coming... March is bonus payout time, got my list ready.

Body kit and paint.
Roll Cage
Install 335s, 295s to front.
Install new headers and dual 3" exhuast
Upgrade brakes to 6 piston front 4 piston rear big black brembos. Larger Rotors.
Lower control brace.
New konis and springs all around. Plan on 1 to 1.5" drop all around.
Larger Nitrous Kit 250Hp shot.
New dash cover
Taking a week vacation first of April to install everything.

Took a video of the Landshark just before going out for a nice long spin. Just start, idle and a couple throttle blips. I've got idle set a little high at 1100rpms, gonna see her manners at stop lights with a 950 idle. Should add some more lope, though she already spits and lopes pretty wicked at the higher rpm.

Don't you love when you take the time to make a video, then load it and you then realize you did something stupid like leaving the turn signal on... Very Happy

Made another video to document where she's at before the next round of mods. Funny, the more I look at her, the less I think about a body kit at all. Might just add rear flares to fit the 335s and call it a day. The 295s will already fit up front with a little messaging.

Audio is a little weird. Used my daughters FLIP for the first time.

After trying to drift twice now and getting some advice from more experienced members, suspension mods will be head of the line end of the month.

Gonna drop about 1.5" all around. New heavier springs 800/600, new Koni Yellows to replace my reds. Also this new front sway bar. I already have an upgraded bar but it's not stiff enough. This one is 1.25" .250"thick with a 475# twist rate. Super stiff.

Landshark Build Thread UltimateFrontBar1
Landshark Build Thread SwayBar%20Angles

There are so few mass market mods for the 928, sometimes I think fixing up an old Porsche is more expensive than just buying a new one... Sad $600 for a sway bar is a bit much, but I have no choice if I want to play. At least I was pointed to cheaper springs...
